Content Removal and Account Appeal Policy

BareAnime may remove content, restrict account features, suspend accounts, or terminate memberships when necessary to enforce its policies, protect users, comply with law, maintain editorial standards, or preserve the security and integrity of its services.

This Content Removal and Account Appeal Policy explains:

  • Why BareAnime may take moderation action
  • What types of action may be imposed
  • When notice may be provided
  • Which decisions may be appealed
  • How to submit an appeal
  • How BareAnime reviews appeals
  • What happens when an appeal succeeds or fails

In this policy:

  • “BareAnime,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to BareAnime.
  • “Services” refers to BareAnime.com and related BareAnime-operated accounts, profiles, theory submissions, comments, notifications, store features, and community areas.
  • “Content” means theories, articles, comments, replies, profile information, usernames, images, links, messages, ratings, and other material submitted through the Services.
  • “Member,” “user,” “you,” and “your” refer to the person affected by a moderation decision.
  • “Moderation Action” means removal, restriction, warning, suspension, termination, or another enforcement decision.
  • “Appeal” means a request that BareAnime reconsider a Moderation Action.

This policy should be read together with BareAnime’s Terms and Conditions, Community Guidelines, Account and Membership Policy, User-Generated Content Agreement, Copyright and DMCA Policy, and Privacy Policy.

1. Purpose of Moderation

BareAnime moderates content and accounts to support:

  • Constructive anime and manga discussion
  • Original theory submissions
  • User safety
  • Copyright compliance
  • Protection against plagiarism
  • Privacy
  • Account security
  • Editorial quality
  • Legal compliance
  • Reliable site operation

Moderation is not intended to eliminate ordinary disagreement, unpopular opinions, unusual theories, or criticism that otherwise complies with BareAnime’s policies.

2. Content BareAnime May Review

BareAnime may review:

  • Public theories
  • Drafts submitted for publication
  • Comments and replies
  • Usernames
  • Display names
  • Profile images
  • Profile biographies
  • Uploaded files
  • External links
  • Reports
  • Appeals
  • Public account activity
  • Private messages reported by a participant
  • Other content when reasonably necessary for security, support, safety, or legal compliance

The ability to review content does not mean BareAnime monitors every interaction continuously.

3. Sources of Moderation Review

A review may begin because of:

  • A user report
  • A copyright complaint
  • A plagiarism complaint
  • An automated filter
  • A spam or security alert
  • A staff review
  • A support request
  • A legal notice
  • A court order
  • A payment or fraud concern
  • A content audit
  • Publicly visible evidence
  • Another credible source

BareAnime may investigate without revealing the identity of the person who submitted a report.

4. Available Moderation Actions

BareAnime may take one or more actions, including:

  • Taking no action
  • Providing informal guidance
  • Requesting revisions
  • Adding a warning or label
  • Adding a spoiler notice
  • Correcting formatting
  • Removing an image
  • Removing a link
  • Removing a comment
  • Rejecting a theory submission
  • Unpublishing a theory
  • Restricting distribution
  • Locking comments
  • Disabling uploads
  • Restricting account features
  • Issuing a warning
  • Temporarily suspending an account
  • Indefinitely suspending an account
  • Permanently terminating an account
  • Blocking account recreation
  • Preserving records
  • Reporting unlawful activity
  • Complying with legal process

BareAnime is not required to use every action in sequence.

5. Factors Considered

BareAnime may consider:

  • The nature of the content
  • Severity of the violation
  • Actual or potential harm
  • Whether the conduct was intentional
  • Whether the conduct was repeated
  • Prior warnings
  • Account history
  • Credibility of reports
  • Available evidence
  • Whether the user corrected the problem
  • Whether the content involves a minor
  • Copyright or privacy risks
  • Immediate security concerns
  • Relevant legal obligations
  • Whether a less restrictive response would be sufficient

Similar cases may produce different outcomes when their context or severity differs.

6. Theory Rejection Is Not Always Discipline

BareAnime may reject an unpublished theory for editorial reasons without treating the submission as a policy violation.

Editorial reasons may include:

  • Insufficient original analysis
  • Incomplete development
  • Poor readability
  • Lack of relevance
  • Excessive repetition
  • Weak evidence
  • Unsupported factual claims
  • Existing coverage of the same subject
  • Submission-volume limits
  • Formatting problems
  • Excessive copyright risk
  • Content outside BareAnime’s current publishing scope

An editorial rejection does not necessarily place a violation on the member’s account.

7. Removal of Published Content

BareAnime may remove or unpublish content when:

  • It violates the Community Guidelines
  • It violates the User-Generated Content Agreement
  • It infringes or appears to infringe rights
  • It contains plagiarism
  • It contains private information
  • It contains malware or dangerous links
  • It creates a safety concern
  • It contains material factual misrepresentations
  • It was published through fraud
  • A legal request requires action
  • The member requests removal
  • Continued hosting creates significant legal or operational risk
  • The content was approved in error
  • The content is technically damaged or incompatible

Removal does not always mean that BareAnime has reached a final legal conclusion about the material.

8. Partial Removal

BareAnime may remove only the part of a submission that creates a problem.

For example, BareAnime may remove:

  • A copyrighted image while retaining the theory
  • A doxxing detail while retaining the comment
  • An affiliate link while retaining the analysis
  • A threatening sentence while retaining unrelated discussion
  • A spoiler from a title while retaining the article
  • A plagiarized passage while requesting revision

Partial removal may be used when it adequately addresses the concern.

9. Content Labels and Reduced Distribution

BareAnime may use measures short of removal, including:

  • Spoiler labels
  • Theory notices
  • Unconfirmed-information labels
  • Canon-update notices
  • Sensitive-content warnings
  • Reduced recommendation placement
  • Removal from search or featured areas
  • Comment locking
  • Age-related restrictions

These measures may be imposed when the content can remain available but requires context or reduced exposure.

10. Warnings

A warning may:

  • Identify the relevant policy
  • Explain the prohibited conduct
  • Request a correction
  • Explain possible consequences of repetition
  • Require acknowledgment before additional participation

A warning does not guarantee that future violations will receive another warning before suspension.

11. Feature Restrictions

BareAnime may restrict individual features such as:

  • Theory submissions
  • Commenting
  • Image uploads
  • External links
  • Profile editing
  • Direct messaging
  • Ratings or reactions
  • Account notifications
  • Promotional activity

Feature restrictions may be temporary, indefinite, or connected to completion of a required action.

12. Temporary Suspension

A temporary suspension may prevent some or all account access for a stated period.

During suspension, BareAnime may restrict:

  • Login
  • Posting
  • Editing
  • Commenting
  • Uploading
  • Messaging
  • Profile visibility
  • Access to submission tools

Published content may remain visible, be anonymized, or be removed depending on the reason for the suspension.

13. Indefinite Suspension

An indefinite suspension has no guaranteed end date.

It may be imposed while:

  • A security investigation remains open
  • Legal proceedings are pending
  • Identity or age questions remain unresolved
  • A serious copyright dispute continues
  • Additional evidence is needed
  • Account restoration would create continuing risk

An indefinite suspension is not necessarily permanent, but restoration is not guaranteed.

14. Permanent Termination

BareAnime may permanently terminate an account for:

  • Serious threats
  • Child exploitation
  • Fraud
  • Malware
  • Doxxing
  • Severe harassment
  • Repeated plagiarism
  • Repeat copyright infringement
  • Ban evasion
  • Impersonation used for harm
  • Coordinated manipulation
  • Illegal activity
  • Repeated violations after warnings
  • Conduct creating substantial legal or safety risk

A permanently terminated member may not create or control another BareAnime account without written permission.

15. Immediate Action Without Warning

BareAnime may act immediately and without advance warning when necessary to address:

  • Credible threats
  • Immediate danger
  • Child sexual exploitation
  • Doxxing
  • Malware
  • Phishing
  • Fraud
  • Account compromise
  • Pirated material
  • Serious privacy violations
  • Court orders
  • Attempts to destroy evidence
  • Other urgent legal, safety, or security risks

BareAnime may delay detailed notice when disclosure could interfere with an investigation or increase harm.

16. Moderation Notices

Where practical, a moderation notice may identify:

  • The affected content or account
  • The action taken
  • The policy involved
  • Whether the action is temporary or permanent
  • Any required corrective step
  • Whether an appeal is available
  • The appeal deadline
  • How to submit the appeal

BareAnime may provide a summary rather than revealing internal security, reporting, or investigation details.

17. Limits on Information Provided

BareAnime may withhold or redact information when disclosure could:

  • Reveal another person’s private information
  • Identify a confidential reporter
  • Endanger a user
  • Expose security systems
  • Facilitate evasion
  • Violate a legal obligation
  • Interfere with an investigation
  • Disclose privileged legal advice
  • Expose confidential business information
  • Reveal methods used to detect abuse

A limited explanation does not necessarily mean the decision lacked supporting evidence.

18. Decisions That May Be Appealed

Appealable decisions may include:

  • Removal of a theory
  • Removal of a comment
  • Removal of profile content
  • Feature restrictions
  • Temporary suspension
  • Indefinite suspension
  • Permanent account termination
  • A plagiarism determination
  • A ban-evasion determination
  • An impersonation determination
  • Rejection based on an alleged policy violation
  • Certain attribution decisions
  • Certain age or eligibility decisions

BareAnime may also accept appeals of other decisions at its discretion.

19. Decisions That May Not Be Appealable

BareAnime may decline appeals concerning:

  • Ordinary editorial rejection without a policy penalty
  • Minor formatting edits
  • Category or tag selection
  • Featured-content selection
  • Search ranking
  • Recommendation placement
  • Advertising placement
  • Expired temporary restrictions
  • Repeated appeals already fully reviewed
  • Decisions required by a final court order
  • Technical limitations outside BareAnime’s control
  • Requests that do not identify a specific decision
  • Decisions for which a separate legal process applies

BareAnime may still review such concerns through ordinary support even when a formal appeal is unavailable.

20. Appeal Deadline

An appeal should generally be submitted within 30 calendar days after BareAnime sends notice of the decision.

BareAnime may review a late appeal when:

  • The member did not receive the original notice
  • Account access prevented submission
  • A disability or serious circumstance affected the deadline
  • New evidence became available
  • Review would prevent a meaningful injustice
  • Another reasonable reason exists

BareAnime may decline late appeals when delay makes reliable review impractical.

21. One Appeal per Decision

Members should submit one complete appeal for each decision.

Do not submit repeated versions through:

  • Multiple email addresses
  • Multiple accounts
  • Comments
  • Social media
  • Unrelated contact categories
  • Friends or followers

BareAnime may consolidate duplicate appeals or close them without separate responses.

A second appeal may be considered when it presents significant new evidence.

22. Appeal Requirements

An appeal should include:

  • BareAnime username
  • Registered email address
  • Date of the decision
  • Content or account affected
  • Link to the affected page, where available
  • Description of the action
  • Reason the decision should be reconsidered
  • Supporting evidence
  • Relevant policy section
  • Requested outcome

Members should explain specific facts rather than stating only that the decision was unfair.

23. Useful Appeal Evidence

Useful evidence may include:

  • Original drafts
  • Publication dates
  • Source references
  • Proof of permission
  • Licensing records
  • Screenshots
  • Account-security information
  • Evidence of independent creation
  • Context missing from the original review
  • Evidence that the wrong account or content was identified
  • Acknowledgment and correction of a lower-severity violation

Do not submit:

  • Passwords
  • Complete payment-card numbers
  • Unrelated private information
  • Illegally obtained records
  • Pirated files
  • Complete manga chapters
  • Child sexual abuse material
  • Malware

24. Truthful Appeals

Appeals must be submitted in good faith.

Do not:

  • Fabricate evidence
  • Alter screenshots deceptively
  • Impersonate another person
  • Threaten reviewers
  • Publish private staff information
  • Encourage coordinated harassment
  • Submit false legal claims
  • Misrepresent ownership
  • Use another person’s account without permission

A fraudulent appeal may result in additional enforcement.

25. Correction and Accountability

An appeal does not always need to deny that a violation occurred.

A member may explain:

  • What happened
  • Why it happened
  • What was misunderstood
  • What was corrected
  • Why the violation will not recur
  • Why a lesser restriction would be appropriate

BareAnime may consider genuine corrective action when deciding whether to reduce a penalty.

26. Appeal Review

BareAnime may review:

  • The original content
  • Moderation records
  • User reports
  • Account history
  • Relevant communications
  • Automated signals
  • Copyright or plagiarism evidence
  • The appeal
  • New supporting evidence
  • Applicable policies
  • Relevant law

Where practical, a reviewer who did not make the original decision may evaluate serious appeals.

BareAnime does not guarantee an entirely separate reviewer in every case.

27. Review Outcomes

BareAnime may:

  • Uphold the decision
  • Reverse the decision
  • Restore content
  • Restore the account
  • Reduce the penalty
  • Replace a suspension with a warning
  • Shorten or extend a restriction
  • Request revisions
  • Restore only part of the content
  • Anonymize content
  • Require a username change
  • Request additional information
  • Refer the matter to a legal or security process
  • Close the appeal without action

The outcome may differ from the exact remedy requested.

28. Restoration of Content

When an appeal succeeds, BareAnime may attempt to restore:

  • The theory
  • Comment
  • Profile
  • Image
  • Link
  • Account access
  • Feature access

Restoration may not reproduce every prior condition.

For example:

  • Prior reactions may be lost.
  • Search ranking may change.
  • Cached copies may remain unavailable.
  • Comments may remain locked.
  • A removed image may be replaced.
  • The content may receive a warning or label.
  • Technical restoration may not be possible.

BareAnime may provide another reasonable remedy when exact restoration is unavailable.

29. Restoration of Accounts

Account restoration may require:

  • Password reset
  • Email verification
  • Acceptance of updated policies
  • Removal of prohibited profile information
  • A username change
  • Security review
  • Compliance with a limited feature restriction
  • Confirmation that the account will not be shared

Restoration does not erase valid prior warnings unless BareAnime expressly reverses them.

30. Appeals Involving Plagiarism

A plagiarism appeal should identify:

  • The original work
  • Publication dates
  • Draft history
  • Source material
  • Which portions were independently created
  • Any attribution provided
  • Any permission obtained
  • Why the similarity does not establish copying

BareAnime may compare wording, structure, evidence order, examples, and unusual shared errors.

General similarity between broad theory concepts does not by itself prove plagiarism.

31. Appeals Involving Account Security

When a user claims that prohibited activity resulted from account compromise, BareAnime may consider:

  • Login records
  • Email changes
  • Password-reset activity
  • Device or session information
  • The timing of reported compromise
  • Whether the member shared credentials
  • Whether the member promptly contacted support
  • Other relevant security evidence

BareAnime may restore access while retaining restrictions needed to protect users or investigate remaining activity.

32. Appeals Involving Age Eligibility

A person appealing an underage-account decision may be required to demonstrate that the account holder meets BareAnime’s minimum age.

BareAnime will seek to use a verification method proportionate to the issue.

Do not send a complete identification document through ordinary email unless BareAnime provides an appropriate and necessary verification process.

BareAnime may retain limited records needed to document the result and prevent repeated underage registration.

33. Appeals Involving Privacy or Doxxing

BareAnime may decline to restore private or identifying information even when other parts of an appeal succeed.

Protection of a person’s safety or privacy may outweigh the member’s preference to restore the exact original wording.

BareAnime may restore an edited or redacted version instead.

34. Appeals Involving Threats or Child Safety

BareAnime may apply heightened review to cases involving:

  • Credible threats
  • Grooming
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Child sexual abuse material
  • Trafficking
  • Extortion
  • Attempts to arrange unsafe meetings
  • Serious self-harm encouragement

BareAnime may preserve records, restrict access, and cooperate with lawful investigations.

Appeal information may be limited when greater disclosure could endanger someone or interfere with an investigation.

35. Copyright Removals and DMCA Counter-Notifications

A standard BareAnime appeal is not a substitute for a formal DMCA counter-notification.

When content was removed because of a DMCA notice, the affected user may need to follow the counter-notification procedure in BareAnime’s Copyright and DMCA Policy.

A DMCA counter-notification is a legal statement that requires specific information, including statements made under penalty of perjury, consent to federal court jurisdiction, and acceptance of service of process.

BareAnime may continue to remove content for an independent violation of its policies even when a DMCA counter-notification is valid.

36. Trademark and Other Legal Complaints

Trademark, defamation, privacy, court-order, and other legal disputes may require separate procedures.

BareAnime may direct a member to:

  • Submit additional documentation
  • Use the appropriate legal contact
  • Respond to a claimant
  • Obtain independent legal advice
  • Follow a court or statutory process

An ordinary moderation appeal does not cancel a valid legal obligation.

37. Court Orders

BareAnime may be unable to restore content or an account when doing so would conflict with:

  • A court order
  • A binding legal restriction
  • A valid government demand
  • A settlement
  • Another enforceable legal obligation

A member may need to challenge the underlying order through the appropriate legal process rather than through BareAnime’s ordinary appeal system.

38. Appeal Review Time

BareAnime will attempt to review appeals within a reasonable period.

Review may take longer when:

  • The case involves many submissions
  • Additional records are needed
  • Copyright ownership is disputed
  • A security investigation is active
  • A legal issue requires outside advice
  • The appeal involves serious safety concerns
  • The member submits incomplete information

Submitting repeated messages will not necessarily accelerate review.

39. Status During an Appeal

Submitting an appeal does not automatically pause or reverse the original decision.

During review:

  • Removed content may remain unavailable.
  • Account restrictions may remain active.
  • A suspension may remain in effect.
  • Evidence may be preserved.
  • Additional protective restrictions may be imposed if new risks appear.

BareAnime may temporarily restore limited access when doing so is safe and appropriate.

40. Final Appeal Decisions

A decision communicated as final closes the ordinary appeal process for that action.

BareAnime may reopen a final decision when:

  • Significant new evidence becomes available
  • The original decision involved a clear factual error
  • Relevant law changes
  • A court or legal authority requires reconsideration
  • BareAnime identifies a serious procedural problem
  • Reopening is necessary to prevent substantial harm

Disagreement alone does not require BareAnime to reopen a final decision.

41. Retaliation and Harassment

Members may not retaliate against:

  • Reporters
  • Moderators
  • Staff
  • Claimants
  • Other members
  • Witnesses
  • People who provide evidence

Prohibited retaliation may include:

  • Harassment
  • Threats
  • Doxxing
  • Coordinated targeting
  • False reports
  • Impersonation
  • Off-platform intimidation organized through BareAnime

Retaliation may result in additional restrictions or termination.

42. Confidentiality of Reports

BareAnime will not promise complete confidentiality to reporters.

Information may need to be disclosed:

  • To investigate the report
  • To explain a decision
  • To comply with legal process
  • To administer a DMCA counter-notification
  • To protect safety
  • To defend legal claims

Where practical, BareAnime may limit disclosure of a reporter’s identity when it is not necessary to resolve the issue.

43. Record Retention

BareAnime may retain records concerning:

  • Removed content
  • Warnings
  • Reports
  • Appeals
  • Review outcomes
  • Suspensions
  • Terminations
  • Copyright complaints
  • Account-security incidents
  • Relevant communications
  • Supporting evidence

Records may be retained as reasonably necessary for:

  • Policy enforcement
  • Legal compliance
  • Fraud prevention
  • Security
  • Dispute resolution
  • Defense of legal claims
  • Prevention of ban evasion

Records will be handled according to BareAnime’s Privacy Policy.

44. Deleted Accounts and Appeals

A member who voluntarily deletes an account may lose access to ordinary account-based appeal tools.

BareAnime may still consider a request involving:

  • Mistaken attribution
  • Published personal information
  • Copyright ownership
  • Account compromise
  • Legal rights
  • An unresolved suspension

Account deletion does not automatically erase valid moderation, legal, fraud-prevention, or security records.

45. No Guaranteed Publication

A successful account appeal does not guarantee publication of a rejected theory.

BareAnime may restore the account while maintaining an independent editorial rejection based on:

  • Quality
  • Relevance
  • Duplication
  • Formatting
  • Publication priorities
  • Excessive copyright risk
  • Other nondisciplinary editorial reasons

Editorial discretion and disciplinary enforcement are separate decisions.

46. No Compensation for Moderation Decisions

Unless applicable law requires otherwise, BareAnime does not provide payment or compensation merely because:

  • Content was temporarily unavailable
  • An appeal succeeded
  • A warning was reversed
  • An account was restored
  • Engagement was lost
  • Search ranking changed
  • A theory missed a promotional opportunity

This section does not limit rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded.

47. Changes to This Policy

BareAnime may update this policy when:

  • Community features change
  • New appeal tools are introduced
  • Account systems change
  • Moderation practices change
  • Applicable laws change
  • Safety procedures change
  • BareAnime’s business structure changes

The “Last updated” date will identify the current version.

Material changes may be communicated through the Website, account notifications, or email where appropriate.
